Election Period/Gun Ban Kick-Off for October 30, 2023 Barangay and SK Elections

The Election Period and the Period of Prohibited Acts, with the most prominent being the Ban on the Possession, Carrying, or Transportation of Firearms and Other Lethal Weapons (Gun Ban), are scheduled to begin on August 28, 2023, and will continue until November 29, 2023, in accordance with COMELEC Resolution No. 10905, in connection with COMELEC Resolution No. 10924.

Starting at 12:01 AM on August 28, 2023, as directed by Commissioner Aimee P. Ferolino, the Commissioner-in-Charge of the Committee on the Ban on Firearms and Security Concerns (CBFSC), COMELEC Checkpoints will be established nationwide by law enforcement agencies vested with authority, including the Philippine National Police (PNP), the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), and the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).

Subsequently, at 7:00 AM on August 28, 2023, Chairman George Erwin M. Garcia, along with CBFSC CIC Ferolino, other Commissioners, and officials from both COMELEC Main and Field, will lead the official launch of the Election Period and Gun Ban, as well as the inspection of COMELEC Checkpoints. This event will take place at the Bonifacio Shrine / Kartilya ng Katipunan in the City of Manila.

Following this, Chairman Garcia will proceed to the Amoranto Sports Complex on A. Roces Avenue, Quezon City, to personally oversee the first day of the filing of Certificates of Candidacy (COC) for all six districts of Quezon City.

The inspection and monitoring of the COC filing process on the first day will conclude with a visit to the Taguig Convention Center on Pedro Cayetano Blvd., Taguig City, which serves as the venue for COC filing for all barangays (neighborhoods) of Taguig City. After the inspection and monitoring activities, a press conference will be held at the same venue.
